Governor Waiguru receives sanitizers from EABL to boost fight against Covid-19

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has received 3,600 bottles of sanitizers from East African Breweries Ltd (EABL) to boost the fight against Covid-19.

The consignment will be distributed to various health facilities for use by the healthcare givers who are in the frontline in the fight against corona virus. Speaking while receiving the sanitizers at the County Headquarters in Kutus, the governor thanked the company and appreciated all other stakeholders who have partnered with the county in the fight against the pandemic.

The EABL Central Region Manager Kiragu Ngugi who handed over the sanitizers, said that the company is partnering with counties in provision of sanitizers to frontline workers and as such they have 135,000 litres of sanitizers for distribution to various counties.

At the same time the governor flagged off the distribution of relief food to flood victims and other vulnerable people numbering to 2,750 households.  She said that the county government has been working closely with the National Government in identification of the needy cases for distribution of the food rations.  “So far, we received 1,500 of bags 50kg of rice and 30 cartons of cooking oil from the National Government which have complemented our efforts in giving relief aid to the vulnerable.

Some of the areas that benefited from the rations include Kamuthanga, Marura, Shauri Moyo, Gathogondo, Maisha Kamili and Mutithi.

While the governor personally distributed the food to Kamuthanga beneficiaries, she said that different teams have been dispatched to distribute in the rest of the areas in order to speed up the process. The governor also flagged off distribution of 15,000 masks that have been produced by the county’s Kaitheri Apparel Factory. The masks will be distributed to boda boda operators and market traders with immediate effect.  She noted that mask production will continue to cover more of the vulnerable groups in the county.

The county government has continued applying various Covid-19 prevention strategies which have so far protected the county against the virus spread. Such measures include enforcing hand washing, social distance, and screening of every person crossing into the county from other counties, fumigation of markets, shopping centers, bus stations and other public places among others.

The county has also been carrying out continuous public education on corona virus prevention guidelines.
