Waiguru ranked top in the latest Governors Performance survey
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has been ranked as the top-performing county executive in the country in the latest Politrack Africa Thematic Governors Performance survey.
Waiguru had a composite score of 61.5% and a public satisfaction score of 68% among the 47 Governors.
The survey conducted between July 13–17 this year, covering all 47 counties with a focus on three critical devolved functions of Agriculture, Health, and Water Management and integrating them with a measure of overall Public Satisfaction.
The Kirinyaga Governor scored high in healthcare and provision of water at 60% followed by Agriculture at 58%.
Kisii Governor Simba Arati was ranked second with a score of 58.5% followed closely by Patrick Ole Ntutu of Narok and Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos) who had a tie of 57.3%. Jonathan Lati Lelelit of Samburu came fourth with 54.3% points while Dr. Kimani Wamatangi (Kiambu) 53.3% closed the top five ranking.
The pollster Waiguru’s high rating was attributed to her countywide transformative initiatives that are modernizing service delivery, strengthening healthcare, expanding water access, and driving agricultural growth to directly uplift lives.
At the heart of this sterling performance is a strategic approach to development across key economic and social sectors. In healthcare, the administration has focused on expansive infrastructure upgrades, including upgrade of Kianyaga and Kimbimbi Level from level 3 to level 4 Hospitals, which are set to significantly boost regional medical capacity once complete.
Simultaneously, the county is executing major water security initiatives, most notably the Ksh 100 million Mwea Bulk Water Extension Project. The flagship project, which includes the extension of the Kandongu-Mutithi and Kutus-Kimbimbi bulk water main pipelines and feeder lines, as well as the rehabilitation of the Nyamindi intake, is currently under construction and, upon completion, targets supplying clean, reticulated domestic water to over 30,000 households across eight wards.
Agricultural productivity has also seen massive strides through the setup of the Sagana Agro-Industrial Park and the introduction of e-voucher support systems for farmers. These physical developments are further reinforced by a digital revolution that has automated revenue collection through the KIRI PAY digital platform and introduced the Hospital Management Information System to streamline operations, cementing the county’s leadership in tech-driven, citizen-centric governance.
Reaffirming her commitment to sustaining this trajectory till the end of her term in office, Waiguru emphasized that these milestones are only the beginning, pledging to continue serving the people diligently.
“This recognition reflects the transformative progress we continue to deliver across Kirinyaga, from the Sagana Agro-Industrial Park to strengthened healthcare systems and expanded water infrastructure. With the same commitment, we shall finish all the work we started, in our mantra of finishing strong, ensuring our county rises to even greater heights,” Waiguru said.
She assured residents that her administration will maintain its focus on completing ongoing infrastructure initiatives and delivering impactful, life-changing progress to every corner of the county.
