Joy as Kirinyaga county government officials celebrates christmas with Kianyaga Children’s Home
Laughter, excitement and warm embraces filled Kianyaga Children’s Home on Monday, as the Kirinyaga County Government officials paid a special Christmas visit, bringing gifts, food and cheer to the children.
The visit, which has become an annual tradition for the last eight years, saw county officials join the children in celebrating the festive season, sharing a sumptuous meal and moments of joy that lit up the home.
Beyond the celebration, the visit by the county executive reaffirmed Governor Anne Waiguru’s long-standing commitment to the welfare of the children.
Over the years, the Kirinyaga County Government which runs the facility has renovated buildings, constructed kitchen, purchased beds and mattresses, fenced the compound to enhance privacy and security for the children. The county government has also supported the children’s education by paying their school fees through the Sports, Culture and Social Services Department.
Speaking during the visit, County Executive Committee Member for Finance Jackline Njogu, said the county was keen on ensuring the children feel valued and included in society.
“We are here to celebrate with the Kianyaga children and share gifts from Governor Anne Waiguru, as we do every year. We want them to feel loved, supported and part of our society,” Njogu said.
She also used the occasion to call on parents, guardians and the wider community to protect and care for children, noting that the county remains open to supporting vulnerable cases.
“If there are children in need of support, we urge members of the public to reach out to us so that we can help,” she added.
The home is currently hosting 36 children who have found safe refuge as they grow and learn.
The home’s manager, Rose Kiongo, expressed gratitude to the county government, saying the visit has become a meaningful and eagerly anticipated tradition for the children.
“We are always happy to receive officials from the county government every year. They come with food, clothes and gifts, and the children feel remembered and loved,” she said.
Kiongo noted that the county’s continued support has ensured the children live and learn just like their peers elsewhere.
“Our children have books, their school fees is paid and they go to school like any other child. The Governor has shown us that she will not abandon them,” she added.
The event was attended by County Secretary Anthony Kimathi, County Executive Committee Members (CECM); Dennis Musyiimi (Sports), George Karoki (Medical Services), Jared Migwi (Transport), Calbert Njeru (Trade), County Attorney Carolyne Kinyua among other staff.
