Governor Waiguru confident of August win, says her opponents have no development agenda
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has exuded confidence of winning the gubernatorial race saying her opponents have no agenda for development. Waiguru asked voters to reject empty rhetoric from candidates whose only intention was to reverse the gains made in developing the county.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate reiterated that the gubernatorial race in Kirinyaga was not a beauty contest and challenged opponents to issue based campaigns. “This is not a beauty contest, the people of Kirinyaga are not interested in smiles and beauty, they want you to explain to them your development agenda,” she said.
Speaking at Gathambi area of Ndia Constituency, the governor asked voters to reject contenders engaged in mudslinging, propaganda and insults. She said the August 9 polls will be a contest between transformative leadership that wants to continue the path of progress against visionless and clueless leaders out to hoodwink voters. She said in her first term, Kirinyaga had made great strides in many sector among them building of hospitals, markets, rehabilitation of roads, supply of water and cabro paving of towns among other life-changing projects. The County boss reiterated she was committed to uplifting the living standards of residents through Wezesha empowerment programs.
She said Kirinyaga and the entire Mt. Kenya were solidly behind Deputy President William Ruto and no amount of blackmail, threats or coercion would force voters to abandon him. Waiguru asked voters to reject politics of betrayal saying it was the turn of Mt. Kenya people to support Ruto because he had stood with President Uhuru Kenyatta during the 2012 and 2017 elections. “We will not betray Ruto, he stood with us and we promised to support him. It’s our turn to return the favour,” she added.
She spoke as UDA aspirants accompanying her during the campaigns accused interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho sacking village elders who are not supporting Azimio. They said the PS allegedly forcing chiefs and their assistants to support Azimio.
