Kirinyaga County recognized as the top tax compliant county

Kirinyaga County Government has been recognized by the Kenya Revenue Authority as the best in tax compliance. Speaking at Governor Anne Waiguru’s office in Kutus on Thursday, KRA Central Region Coordinator Dr. Tobias Konyango, commended the governor for ensuring that the county fully complied with the laid down tax regulations.

He urged other counties and public entities to emulate Kirinyaga’s example adding that it was important for counties to collect and account for all the monies collected since the government depended on such taxes for building the nation. The Coordinator said that KRA was readily available to assist any entity that could be encountering issues that could hinder tax compliance.

While appreciating the recognition, Governor Waiguru said it was great honor to be ranked no. 1 saying that it came as result of consistent commitment to ensure that the required standards were set and maintained. She acknowledged that it was not an easy task but her team worked hard to ensure that compliance to the letter was achieved. She noted that her team will be partnering with KRA to increase revenue collection adding that the county was committed to maintaining a clean financial record.

KRA has managed to reduce the cost of revenue collection to 1% compared to average 20-30% in many government institutions. Kirinyaga County paid Ksh. 518 million to KRA as taxes collected during 2018/2019 financial year.
