Sagana Town gets cabro parking as Waiguru positions town as an Industrial City

Kirinyaga County Government is laying about 6,000 square meters of cabro paving in Sagana Town as Governor Anne Waiguru positions the town as an Industrial City.

During an inspection tour of the project on Wednesday, Governor Waiguru said that on completion, the project will provide conducive parking spaces for about 200 cars. It will also address the challenge of drainage especially during the rainy season and also provide proper pedestrian walkways.

The improved parking spaces will enable the County government collect more revenue and will give car owners value for their money.

She noted that Sagana town plays an integral part in our county’s economic development and has great potential of being the most preferred investment hub in the county and the region.

“This facelift project therefore positions the town as an investment powerhouse as we gear up for the upcoming County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) and Export Processing Zone (EPZ),” said the governor.

The governor said her administration is committed to giving Sagana a facelift as the setting up of the Industrial Park gain momentum.

She added that the Industrial Park is going to breathe life into the county’s Mountain Cities 2032 Blueprint which designates Ndia Constituency as the Industrial City of Kirinyaga. It targets investors in agro-processing industries for produce such as dairy, essential oils, integrated fruits and vegetables, beverages processing, supportive industries such as agrovet processors, packaging factories, banks, hospitality, exports and logistics.

“A similar town upgrade project is taking place at Kagumo Town where 10,000-meter squares will be cabro paved, while we are about to conclude the Wang’uru town cabro project covering about 30,000 square meters. Other towns where we have implemented cabro project include; Kagio, Kutus, Kianyaga and Kerugoya,” the governor added.

Historically, in 1970s and 1980s, Sagana was an emerging small industrial town that was home to the only railway station in Kirinyaga. It had thriving industries like Sagana Fisheries, Tanneries Limited, hotels, dozens of flour milling factories, schools, technical institues among other.

The cabro paving projects have not only provided ample parking spaces and driveways but have also helped in modernization of the towns and created a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. In total, the projects involve the laying of over 60,000 square meters of cabro.

Waiguru said the projects have been a source of income to youth who provide labor.
